CARMEL SUR AREA — October 30, 2026. Monterey County’s Big Sur Land Use Advisory Committee included a residential coastal permit application for the Aurora del Mar corridor on its September 22 agenda. The meeting record identifies a proposal for alterations to an existing residence.

What is in the application?

County file PLN230036 / HCD 26-074 proposes to regularize 721 square feet of existing converted crawl space and to add 288 square feet of office space. The plans identify a coastal location near bluffs and environmentally sensitive habitats. Different components would require different coastal review steps.

What remains undecided?

The September 22 committee listing requested advisory feedback on design and neighborhood compatibility. It is not itself a final county permit, a completed project or approval for all proposed improvements. Minutes for the meeting had not been finalized on the legislative page at the time of this review.

People following coastal land use can ask Monterey County planners for the final staff report, any conditions, and whether later permits were granted.
